Instructions for Making Barefoot Contessa’s Turkey Burger Recipe

1.Use a fine-holed grater to grate the onion. The grated onion should amount to about two tablespoons and a lot of juice that you can discard.

2.Stir together the egg, onion powder, parsley, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

3.In the same bowl, put your ground turkey and stir gently with a fork. Avoid overworking the meat. The mixture will be relatively moist.

4.Prepare the turkey mixture by dividing it into four equal parts and forming a 1/2-inch thick patty.

5.Use a nonstick pan or griddle to heat the vegetable oil on medium-high heat. You can also spray the pan or skillet with pan spray. The heat is enough to cook the patties if you feel hot while holding your hand over the pan or skillet.

6.Place them on the pan and cook for six minutes on each side.

7.Add condiments of your choice to the buns and serve.

When Grilling

1.To prevent the patties from getting soggy, freeze them for about 30 minutes or until firm before grilling since the turkey is quite delicate.

2.Prepare the patties by placing them in a baking dish covered with parchment paper.

3.To prevent sticking, lightly oil the grill grates after cleaning them and heat the grill to medium-high.

4.When ready to cook them, heat the grill and brush it with vegetable oil. Grill the burgers until nicely charred, about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Do not overcook.

5.Turn the patties about a quarter turn and cook for another 5 minutes until they become brown again. Turn the patties over and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes.

6.Cover each patty with two cheese slices in the last 3 minutes of cooking. Cover each with a disposable aluminum pan to melt the cheese.

7.Spread mustard and mayonnaise on the English muffins and grill them.

8.Top the patties with avocado and serve on English muffins.

When Using a Skillet

1.In your skillet, put one tablespoon of olive oil. Using a medium heat setting, warm it for a few minutes.

2.Cook them on each side for about 7 to 8 minutes or until ready. Cover the skillet with a lid while cooking to prevent over-browning of the first side.

3.Top with your favorite toppings and serve on fresh buns.

Health Facts for Barefoot Contessa Turkey Burger

Ground turkey is higher in protein but much lower in fat content than ground beef.

For this reason, buy 93 percent lean ground turkey. It’s essential for two reasons:

First, if you want to keep your burger juicy and flavorful, get the meat fat from the turkey itself.

Second, it means you are getting less saturated fat in your burger.

A 3-ounce patty of ground beef contains 8 grams of saturated fat, while the same serving of ground turkey packs only 1.5 grams.

Panko has no saturated fat or cholesterol and adds a satisfying crunch to each bite.

Although turkey burgers are a healthy alternative to beef, many store-bought brands are high in sodium, preservatives and fat, even in their leanest forms.

Barefoot Contessa’s turkey burger recipe is healthy because it uses lean meat and olive oil, which is good for your heart.

Topping it with a cucumber and Greek yogurt tzatziki sauce adds protein plus some coolness to offset any spiciness in the turkey burger.

Pair it with sweet potato fries or make these burgers on whole wheat buns for a healthy burger everyone will love.

Try Barefoot Contessa’s turkey burger recipe the next time you want a lighter meal with fewer calories but all of the flavor of a traditional burger.

This recipe has 20 grams of protein, 7 grams of fat, and 260 calories per serving.

For toppings, your options are pretty much endless.

Here are a few of my favorites:

There’s nothing like a Barefoot Contessa turkey burger to add some flavor to your meal and create a perfect base for toppings.

To make these toppings, fry up some bacon and add it to your burger, or go light and fresh with hummus, avocado, cucumber and sprouts.

Alternatively, think Italian by spreading basil pesto on your burger and topping it with tomato slices (fresh or roasted) or roasted red peppers.

Moreover, top your burger with classic ingredients like feta, tomato and spinach for a savory Mediterranean twist.

You can also add some spice with grilled jalapeños and lime-slices.

Try an Asian-inspired burger with Bok Choy, sliced cilantro and peanut sauce for something truly unique.

Tips for making the best Barefoot Contessa Turkey Burgers

If you want to make Contessa’s flavorful dish, here are some tips to make your cooking experience easier.

1.Turkey burgers tend to stick to one’s hands when forming the patties. Before touching the ground turkey mixture, soak your hands in cold water to prevent your patties from sticking. Test with a smaller patty to see if you must add more liquid to make the burger hold its shape and don’t press on them too much, or you will have dry burgers.

2.Alternatively, cover and refrigerate it, preferably overnight. The salt in the recipe will extract some moisture from the turkey, and after chilling, it should be easier to form into patties.

3.For the best results, make the best Barefoot Contessa Turkey Burgers one day before eating them and let them cool uncovered in the fridge. Since they are very lean, they will grill better if they are cold. Wrap them with plastic wrap and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before grilling.

4.Freeze them after forming patties. Freeze between sheets of waxed paper, then put in a sizable resealable freezer bag and keep in the freezer for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before grilling or broiling.

5.To make sure your perfectly seasoned Barefoot Contessa turkey burgers are fully cooked:

Insert a meat thermometer into the center of each one.

Check that it reaches at least 165°F before removing it from heat.

If you use a meat thermometer, don’t let it touch any bones, as this will produce an inaccurate reading.
