Kookaburra wings are absolutely the yummiest chicken wings! I’ve tried loads to find just the right recipe, and I know these are the best.

Hands down, the only wings that took the guesswork out of hosting or even cooking for my family.

As restaurant prices continue to tick onwards, I’ve learned how to fix delicious restaurant meals at home instead of eating out every Saturday night.

Perfectly cooked on the inside, crispy, tender, and moist, is one of the reasons why the Kookaburra wings remain a go-to recipe for me.

With wings blazing in popularity around the world, finding a great recipe will give you a ton of flexibility and a cheaper option of making them taste better.

This recipe will push your cooking skills to delicious levels.

It’s an old-fashioned classic with unique breading that makes them superior to any wings you’ve tried before.

Why this recipe is the best

1.    Chicken wings are inexpensive and can easily fit into your grocery budget.

2.    Most of the ingredients we will use for this recipe are already a staple in your pantry.

3.    Wings are so forgiving.

They work well with various seasonings and can be spiced to your liking.

4.    The leftovers taste even better the next day.

Reheating your leftover wings for next day’s lunch is always a tastier quick-fix minus the prepping.

Recipe Tips:

1.    Use the smaller wings for this recipe, as the bigger ones may not cook through properly.

2.    If you want your wings to taste closer to the restaurant-style, you may use shortening for frying as it is what the restaurants use.

This is optional and can be substituted by vegetable or canola oil.

3.    This recipe serves two to three; you can double or triple on the ingredients if you’re cooking for more people.

4.    If you want your wings spicy to an ear-steaming level, there are some excellent, nuanced techniques to add to that, but the premise is simple.

You may add more hot sauce to bring up the heat.

You can also add extra hot sauce and crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce for an ultra-hot flavor

5.    For a crispy, crustier outer coating, you can use the self-rising in place of the all-purpose flour.

Ingredients:

●    Ten small chicken wings

●    48 ounces shortening

●    Two tablespoons of all-purpose flour

●    One tablespoon Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, cheddar cheese topping (or Molly McButter cheese sprinkles)

●    One ¼ teaspoon of salt

●    One teaspoon chili powder

●    ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper

●    ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

●    ¼ teaspoon paprika

●    ¼ teaspoon onion powder

●    ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

●    1/8 teaspoon ground cumin

●    Dash ground clove

●    Two tablespoons Crystal Louisiana hot sauce

●    One teaspoon water

Method:

1.    Preheat the shortening (you may also use canola or vegetable oil) to 375 degrees F.

2.    Prepare the spiced breading for the wings by combining the coating ingredients.

Mix; flour, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, cheddar cheese toppings, salt, and spices.

Stir well until everything is mixed correctly.

3.    Dip each wing, one at a time, into your breading mix.

Make sure that the coating is light enough.

4.    Place the breaded wings on a plate and put them in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

Make sure the wings are uncovered.

5.    Once the shortening or oil is hot, start placing one wing at a time.

Make sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Fry for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the wings are golden brown.

6.    Meanwhile, start mixing the hot sauce and water in a small bowl.

7.    Once the wings are done, drain them on a paper towel or a cooling rack.

Drop these wings into a large bowl and pour the sauce over the wings.

Cover the container and shake it to coat the wings evenly.

8.    Place the ready Kookaburra wings on a serving plate with bleu cheese and celery sticks on the side.

Storage Tips:

According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection, you should refrigerate poultry or meat within two hours of cooking or reheating.

The wings will be safe to eat for up to four months

How to reheat the Kookaburra wings without drying them out

Oven

Reheating your wings in the oven is one of the best ways to achieve a crispy outside while the inside maintains a moist and juicy texture.

If you’re worried that your wings may come out a little dry, you can spritz them with water.

The oven method takes about 10 to 12 minutes.

●    Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F

●    Take your leftover wings from the fridge and allow them to sit for about 15 minutes to get to room temperature

●    Grease your baking pan with some non-stick spray

●    Place your wings about one inch apart and put them in the oven

●    Reheat them for 5-6 minutes on each side, then flip and repeat the process

●    Using a thermometer, make sure the internal temperature gets to 165 degrees F, then serve

Microwave

The microwave method is the fastest way to reheat your wings, especially if you’re short on time.

●    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F

●    Line your microwave-safe plate with a damp paper towel to absorb excess moisture

●    Place your wings on the plate and put another layer of wet paper towel

●    Place your wings in the microwave for about 2 minutes or until slightly warm.

Do not overheat the wings, as this may dry them out

●    Take out your wings from the microwave and place them on a greased baking pan

●    Put them in the oven at 350 degrees F for about one minute.

Flip the wings and put them back in

●    Cook for another minute, then take them out.

Serve and enjoy

Frying pan

This old-fashioned style will be ideal if you’re a pretty hands-on cook.

It’s a relatively simple process that takes 10 minutes for a delicious crispy result.

●    Remove your wings from the fridge and allow them to sit for a few minutes or until they reach room temperature

●    Place your frying pan on the stove on high heat

●    Add oil, then start adding your leftover wings

●    Fry the wings for two to three minutes on each side, making sure all sides are covered

●    Once the wings appear golden brown, remove them from the oil and allow them to cool.

Serve and enjoy
