M&M’S might seem like they belong in a sci-fi flick, yet it’s amazing to discover they’ve been around since World War II.

These treats were originally made by the Hershey Chocolate Company in the 1930s, and the company still makes them today.

They’re also available under the brand names Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, Baby Ruth, Mars Bar, Milky Way and Twix.

How long do M&M’S last?

According to the Hershey website,  a single M&M will keep in its original wrapper for about two years.

If you open an unopened bag of M&Ms, you’ll find that each one lasts for approximately eight months.

If you purchase a new bag of M&Ms from a grocery store or convenience store, you should expect to use them within six months.

The same goes for those purchased at a vending machine or gas station.

Do M&M’S go bad if they’re left out?

No.

According to the Hershey website, M&M candies don’t spoil when they’re left out.

In fact, they’ll stay good for up to two years.

Can you freeze M&M’S?

You can freeze M&Ms but they won’t hold their shape well after freezing.

You’ll find that they become soft and sticky instead of hard and crispy.

How can you tell if M&M’S are bad?

The easiest way to check if M&Ms are bad is to look at the dates printed on the package.

If the date isn’t clearly visible or falls off the edge of the package, then it’s time to toss those suckers.

If you see a date that looks too old, there’s no reason to risk eating them.

M&Ms come in different colors and flavors.

Some are more popular than others, which means that they sell faster.

Therefore, some varieties will sell out before others, making the date on the package misleading.

For example, red M&M’s have sold extremely fast this year because of the popularity of the movie Black Panther.

So, if you buy a box of red M&Ms, check the date closely.

Another thing to consider is that M&M’s aren’t designed to last forever.

As with anything else, they eventually degrade and lose their flavor and texture over time.

Sometimes, the best way to tell if an M&M is old is to smell it.

If it smells stale, then it’s definitely time to throw it out.

What happens if you eat bad M&M’S?

There’s no need to worry about consuming an expired M&M.

Even though they taste terrible, eating a bad M&M doesn’t cause any health concerns.

It’s only dangerous if you accidentally consume a poisonous amount of the substance.

Are M&M’S safe to eat if they’ve been dropped on the floor?

As long as the outside of the M&M hasn’t been damaged, there’s nothing to worry about.

Dropping an M&M on the floor won’t harm it in the slightest.

What is the best way to store M&M’S?

While you shouldn’t throw away an unopened M&M because it’s too old, you should keep it from going stale by storing it properly.

Store all M&Ms in airtight containers.

It’s also important to make sure that nothing else touches the M&Ms — including other candies or chocolates.

This will help protect the M&Ms from losing their crispiness.

Also, keep M&Ms away from extreme heat and humidity.

That includes the refrigerator and oven.

Do M&M’S expire?

M&Ms don’t necessarily expire.

Instead, they just get less tasty and flavorful over time.

That being said, the best way to ensure that your M&Ms are still delicious is to buy them regularly.

Buy enough M&M’s to last you a month or two, and always replace the M&Ms you eat first.

After all, M&Ms don’t last forever.
