What is a juicer?
A juicer is a kitchen appliance used to extract juice from fruits and vegetables, while removing the pulp, through a process called juicing. It is best used for juicing large amounts because of its fast and simple process of crushing, grinding, and squeezing the juice out of the ingredients. The final product is a smooth fresh juice without the indigestible pulp and with all the vitamins and nutrients you could find in fresh vegetables and fruits. Besides healthy juices, juicers can be used for making baby food, nut butter and milk, smoothies, and crushing herbs and spices. Some models can also work as food processors.
How does a juicer work?
There are four types of juicers:
  1. Centrifugal
  2. Masticating
  3. Twin gear (triturating)
  4. Cold press juicer

The first two work in a similar way but at a different speed – centrifugal with 6,000-15,000 rotations per minute while masticating juicer is slower with 80-100 RPM. Triturating juicer contains two gears that shred the ingredients while cold press juicer extracts juice by pressing them under high pressure.
Once the ingredients are in, a high-speed spinning process starts. A sharp blade or gears chop up fruits and vegetables separating the fiber and leaving smooth juice. The juice is directly pushed through a sharp screen or pressed (using a cold press juicer, so any excess pulp could be removed) and poured into a glass or a cup. The remaining pulp is discarded.

What is a masticating juicer?
A masticating juicer uses a slow speed to cold-press and juice fruits and vegetables, which is why it is known as a “slow juicer”. It has a sharp spinning blade used to shred the ingredients and extract juice out of them. It uses a low-speed rate of 80-100 rotations per minute to ensure minimal oxidation, which enables the juice to be stored for up to 3 days. Because of longer juicing, time spent extracting most of the powerful vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, this type of juicer is one of the most efficient in extracting the most amount of juice and retaining all the important nutrients.
What is a cold press juicer?
A cold press juicer is a type of juicer that uses a hydraulic or pneumatic press with high pressure to extract the maximum amount of juice from fruits and vegetables and produce top quality juice. Squeezed juice contains up to 50 % more vitamins than the ones extracted using other juicers. This is due to the juicing process that does not use oxygen or additional heat, so all the important nutrients are saved. It also produces 30-50 % more juice than other types of juicers. Cold press juice has a longer shelf life – it can be kept up to 72 hours in the refrigerator.
How do you use a juicer?
  1. Slice or chop larger fruits and vegetables into smaller chunks. Smaller ingredients can stay whole.
  2. Place a cup or a glass under the juicer spout.
  3. Plug the juicer in.
  4. Turn the juicer on.
  5. Set the juicing speed.
  6. Add fruits and vegetables into the juicer one by one while pushing them down gently using a pusher. Do not apply too much pressure.
  7. The juice will be poured into the cup/glass.
  8. Empty pulp container after use.
