Soymilk, made only from soybeans, offers a non-dairy option for people choosing a plant-based diet.
While it’s not as popular as other types of dairy-free milks, it’s still a great option for those who want to cut down on their consumption of cow’s milk.
While we often think of milk as something that goes bad quickly once it’s expired or spoiled, this isn’t always true.
In fact, there are some foods that have an extended shelf life, meaning they won’t go bad until much later than what most people expect.
How long does soymilk last in the fridge?
The short answer to this question is anywhere between one week and two weeks.
The longer answer depends on how old the container is and how well it’s stored.
If you buy a new container of soy milk every couple of days, it should last around a week before it starts going off.
If you buy a big jug of soy milk and keep it in your refrigerator at all times, it could last up to two weeks.
How long does soymilk last in the pantry?
The shelf life of soy milk in your pantry is similar to the shelf life of soy milk in your fridge.
One week to two weeks is pretty much the norm here too.
How long does soymilk last unopened?
One week to two weeks is also the typical lifespan of unopened soy milk containers.
That said, it’s important to remember that these figures aren’t set in stone.
Things like temperature fluctuations, humidity levels, and light exposure can affect the shelf life of soy milk.
How long does soymilk last opened?
Once soy milk is open, it typically lasts a day or two, depending on how close you keep it to room temperature.
If you keep it refrigerated (or even cold), it will likely only last a few hours before it spoils.
How long does soymilk last after the expiration date?
Soymilk is subject to spoilage just like any other food product.
However, because soy milk is a plant-based product, it doesn’t have the same bacteria found in dairy products.
This means that if you follow proper storage guidelines, you can expect soy milk to last longer than many other types of dairy-free milk.
How long does soymilk last if it’s frozen?
You can store soy milk in the freezer for up to three months, but it’ll start to turn sour after about a month.
Even though the taste might be off, it’s still perfectly safe to consume.
To avoid this problem, try freezing it in smaller batches instead of using a large container.
You can also add ice cubes to your soy milk to help preserve it.
Just make sure to remove them as soon as the ice melts.
Can you extend the shelf life of soymilk?
Yes, you can extend the shelf life of soy milk by adding a little bit of vinegar.
A tablespoon per half cup of soy milk will do the trick, and it’ll work best if you mix the vinegar with the soy milk right before consuming it.
How can you tell if soymilk has gone bad?
There are several ways you can tell if soymilk is spoiled.
First, look for mold growth.
Mold is an indicator that the milk has gone bad, so it’s best to throw out soy milk that looks anything less than perfect.
Second, check the smell.
Unpleasant odors mean that the milk is no longer safe to eat.
If you don’t recognize the odor, take a sample of the soy milk and give it to someone else to test.
Third, check the texture.
If your soy milk turns into a solid block of cheese when you stir it, it’s probably spoiled.
If it’s liquid, then you know it’s okay to drink.
Lastly, if you see a film on top of your soy milk, it’s time to toss it.
This is an indication that the milk has started to ferment.
Is it safe to drink soymilk that’s past its expiration date?
Absolutely!
As long as you’re not allergic to soy, it’s fine to drink soy milk that’s past its expiration date.
There’s no need to throw it away unless you’re planning to use it in cooking.
How can you tell if soymilk has gone bad?
The easiest way to tell if soy milk has gone bad is by looking for signs of mold growth.
If you find mold on the surface of your soy milk, toss it immediately.
If the mold is inside the soy milk, however, you can still use it safely, although it may lose some of its nutritional value over time.
Is it safe to drink soymilk that’s past its expiration date?
As long as you’re not allergic to soy, it’s better to consume soy milk that’s past its expiration date than not to consume it at all.
Just make sure to discard any soy milk that you suspect has gone bad.

Caramel Custard with Soy Milk
Equipment
- 1 oven
- 1 bowl
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup sugar
- salt
- 2 cups soy 500 mL
- 2 tbsp maple syrup 30 mL
- 2 tsp vanilla extract 10 mL
Instructions
- Set the oven’s temperature to 175 C/350 F.
- Utilize a microwave to make the caramel. Then, tilt and twist each ramekin to evenly coat it. Divide it among the ramekins. Even though the caramel may not initially entirely cover the bottoms and edges, it will spread and level out after the hot cream mixture is added.
- Lightly whisk the eggs with a fork in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly after adding sugar and a touch of salt.
- Pour the soy beverage and maple syrup slowly into the egg mixture after heating them in a saucepan until they are warm but not boiling. Stirring gently and continuously will prevent the formation of too many air bubbles. Pour into the ramekins with the caramel coating after adding the vanilla.
- In a sizable baking pan, place a towel or other piece of material (either a rectangular cake-mould or a roasting pan). Place the ramekins on the cloth, and then pour boiling water into the pan until the sides of the ramekins are halfway up the pan.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the center of the oven, or until the top is golden but the center still quakes a little bit when you move it (the custard will continue to set as it cools). If you want to check if it is fully cooked, use a knife or toothpick.
- To prevent overcooking, remove the ramekins from the water bath right away. Allow to cool, then chill in the fridge for a few hours until ready to serve. To aid in removing the tape, cut the edges using a knife.
